Empowering women is essential to the health and social developmentof families, communities and countries. When women are living safe,fulfilled and productive lives, they can reach their full potential.Contributing their skills to the workforce and can raise happier andhealthier children.In continuation of its series, DBN Amarvilla hosted the fifth Episodeof ORATORY ODDESEY to raise awareness about ‘Women Powerin Viksit Bharat’, DBN Amarvilla took an initiative for the girls in theage group of 12 to 17 on 1st August ’24 for which the school invitedMs Manu Khajuria. She is a freelance writer, published author andactivist from Jammu Kashmir. A native of Jammu Region, hailingfrom Village Bumnal in Bishnah Tehsil, her focus of study has beenthe Region, its history, culture and current issues. She is currently theJoint National Co-ordinator of INSIGHT UK. She is also the FounderDirector of Voice of Dogras, a community organization whichespouses the rights of the Jammu Region and aims to preserve andpromote its unique history and cultural identity. She was awarded theprestigious Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Annual Award 2019 bythe Trustees of Maharaja Gulab Singh Trust under the Chairmanshipof Dr Karan Singh for her outstanding contribution in the promotionof Dogra culture, history and legacy. She was felicitated by theMinistry of Women & Child Development, Twitter India &Breakthrough India with Web Wonder Women award in 2019.She graduated from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University, with aBachelors in Sociology Honours and has a Post Graduate in Mastersin Social Work from Tata Insititute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.Ms Manu khajuria shared the glory of the great Indian women rightfrom the era Before Christ where the women were dignified to theupper position in the ancient Indian to the recent achiever Ms SheetalDevi, an Indian girl as an Asian Para Games champion in compoundArchery. The women are considered as “Shakti” which means power.There are many literary evidences that states that the woman wasconsidered as the origin of power and also said that Empowermentitself means ‘giving power out ‘.Ms Manu khajuria further said that It is the educated girl who becomewoman with self-confidence, intellect and conscience who excel inevery field and can also become heads of the department and bedecision-makers. Education is a great tool to empower women as itwill bridge all other gaps in our society and we as a nation willprosper. She shared the work of a few exemplory women who haveempowered themselves in our society and brought change in thenation right from Anshu Jamwal, who is the first col women tocommand an air Defence unit in Indian army , Nirmala sitharaman, toDroupadi Murmu and many more .The students also understood the five components of womenempowerment which are : sense of self-worth; their right to have andto determine choices; their right to have access to opportunities.Principal DBN Amarvilla Ms Ranju Malhotra extended her heartfeltthanks to Ms Manju Khajuria and said that fight for the things that youcare about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.
